Vaultron Terms of Use
Last updated: 24 October 2026
1. Who we are and scope
Vaultron (the "App") is an iPhone and iPad app that keeps photos, videos, files and notes in an encrypted vault. It is provided by:
- Controller: Thundera Group CISO, contact: legal@thundera.eu
("we", "us"), established in the European Union, in Portugal.
By downloading, installing or using the App, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The Privacy Policy, available at https://vaultron.thundera.eu/privacy, describes how personal data is processed.
To enter into this contract you must have the legal capacity to contract. Persons under 18 may use the App's purchases only with the authorisation of a parent or legal guardian.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the App on Apple devices that you own or control, for personal purposes, under these Terms and the App Store usage rules.
The App is licensed, not sold. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Except to the extent mandatory law allows it, you may not:
- copy, modify or create derivative works of the App;
- decompile, reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App;
- circumvent or remove the App's technical limitations, protections or usage limits;
- rent, lend, sublicense or resell the App.
3. Apple's End User Licence Agreement and App Store terms
The App is distributed through the App Store, and its use is subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the "Apple Standard EULA"), available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/.
- These Terms supplement the Apple Standard EULA. If these Terms conflict with the Apple Standard EULA, the Apple Standard EULA prevails, as do Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules.
- The contract is between you and us only, and not with Apple. We are solely responsible for the App and its content, for maintenance and support, for warranties and for claims relating to the App, as set out in the Apple Standard EULA.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for the App. If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which will refund the purchase price, if any; otherwise, Apple has no other warranty obligation regarding the App.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
4. Plans, subscriptions and free trial
4.1 Free plan and Pro plan
The App can be used free of charge, with limits. At the date of these Terms, the free plan allows up to 3 vaults, 100 photos and 10 videos, counted across all vaults on the device. The paid plans (Vaultron Pro and Family) have no limit on vaults, photos or videos and unlock additional features, such as the duress vault, creating shared vaults and advanced sharing, sync between devices, slideshow and alternate icons. The limits and features of each plan are those shown in the App at the time of purchase.
4.2 Prices
Reference prices, in US dollars, are as follows. In your storefront, Apple shows the final price in local currency, including applicable taxes, before you confirm the purchase.
| Plan | Individual | Family |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | USD 1.49 | USD 3.99 |
| Monthly | USD 3.99 | USD 9.99 |
| Yearly (with 7 free days) | USD 17.99 | USD 39.99 |
| Lifetime (one-time payment) | USD 35.99 | USD 89.99 |
4.3 Automatic renewal
Weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions are auto-renewing subscriptions:
- Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase or, where there is a free trial, at the end of the trial.
- The subscription renews automatically for periods equal to the initial one, at the price then in force, unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your device Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid, and Pro access continues until then.
4.4 Free trial
Yearly plans include a 7-day free trial, available to new subscribers under Apple's rules. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the yearly subscription starts and the yearly price is charged. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
4.5 Lifetime purchase
The lifetime plan is a one-time purchase that unlocks Pro features, without renewal, for as long as the App is made available. It can be restored using "Restore purchases".
4.6 Family Sharing
"Family" plans can be shared with the members of your Apple Family Sharing group, under Apple's terms and conditions. "Individual" plans cannot be shared. Creating and managing the Family Sharing group, choosing who belongs to it and any loss of access caused by leaving or being removed from the group are handled by Apple, with no involvement or access on our part.
4.7 Payment, refunds and right of withdrawal
Payment, billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled exclusively by Apple, under Apple's terms, and we have no access to your payment details. Applicable taxes on the price are those shown by Apple at purchase. Refund requests must be made to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Apple support.
As a consumer, you may have a right of withdrawal within 14 days of purchase, under the law (Portuguese Decree-Law No. 24/2014). Because the purchase is made and charged by Apple, the request must be made to Apple, which decides and processes the refund; we have no means to cancel purchases or return payments. By starting immediate use of digital content or services, you acknowledge that you may lose the right of withdrawal, or have to pay for the part already used, to the extent permitted by law and by Apple's terms.
4.8 Price changes
We may change prices and the make-up of plans. Apple informs subscribers of changes as applicable, and a price change to a subscription applies only after you have been informed and, where required, have agreed to it. Purchases already made are not affected.
4.9 End of subscription and free plan limits
We do not delete user content because a subscription ends, because of a move to the free plan or because limits are exceeded. When Pro ends, content already stored stays on the device, but you cannot add photos or videos above the free plan limits or create vaults beyond that limit, and features exclusive to the paid plans, such as sync between devices, stop being available. The subscription status is determined by Apple.
5. Recovery phrase, pattern and data loss
Vaultron is designed so that we have no access to your content, keys, patterns or recovery phrases. Therefore:
- There is no pattern reset. Without the pattern, a vault cannot be opened, and without the 24-word recovery phrase the backup cannot be restored.
- You alone are responsible for keeping the recovery phrase in a safe place separate from your device, and for remembering your patterns. Anyone who has the phrase can restore the encrypted backups.
- If you lose the pattern, the recovery phrase, or the device without a usable backup, the data will be unrecoverable. Neither we nor Apple can recover it.
- Backup uses your own iCloud, which depends on your Apple account, the available storage, your connection and Apple's terms, and can be switched off in the App's Settings. It may fail or be incomplete without our knowing, because we have no visibility of its status. It is up to you to check the time of the last backup regularly in the App's Settings and to make sure you know how to restore it.
- Losing, replacing or factory-resetting the device, or deleting the App, deletes the App's local data. A restore may fail or be incomplete (for example because of a network or iCloud failure); the App lists the vaults it could not restore, but we cannot recover what iCloud does not return.
- The duress vault (Pro) removes access to all other vaults on the device at the moment its pattern is drawn. This action is intentional and immediate. Encrypted backups in iCloud are not deleted and can be restored with the recovery phrase.
- The "Erase everything on this device" option deletes the App's local data. Backups in iCloud are not deleted.
- "Shake to lock" locks the App's vault, not the device, and does not replace the device lock.
- Regenerating the recovery phrase makes the previous phrase useless for backups already re-sealed, and other devices must enter the new phrase.
- The duress and decoy vaults (Pro) are privacy tools. We do not guarantee that they prevent coercion, that a determined attacker will not recognise the decoy, or your physical safety. You decide whether and how to use them.
- Keep your operating system and devices updated and secure. The App does not protect against a compromised device: jailbreak, malware, an outdated operating system, or third parties who know the device passcode or the pattern can access the content, and we have no technical means to prevent it.
6. Acceptable use
You agree to use the App in accordance with the law and these Terms. In particular, you may not use it to:
- store, transmit or share unlawful content, including child sexual abuse material, or content that infringes the rights of third parties;
- share photos, videos or data of other people without the right or consent to do so;
- harass, threaten or harm others;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to data, devices or vaults of others, or compromise the security of the App;
- circumvent the free plan limits by means that breach these Terms.
Because content is encrypted and we have no access to it, we do not monitor and cannot verify what you store or share, and we cannot provide it to authorities. We will comply with legal orders addressed to us to the extent of what we actually hold. We have no technical means to remove, block or access content stored on your device. You are solely responsible for the content you store and share, for its lawfulness (including copyright and the personal data of third parties) and for the consequences of sharing it, towards third parties and the authorities.
7. Private vault sharing
You can share items through a .vaultron file, protected by a six-word passphrase that you should give to the recipient through a separate channel. With Pro, you can set an expiry date, a maximum number of opens and whether export is allowed.
- These rules are enforced by the recipient's app and are not guaranteed by encryption. A recipient can copy or photograph what they can see.
- Location and capture metadata is removed from shared photos and videos, but metadata inside documents stays.
- Once a file has been shared and received, we cannot recall or revoke it. The recipient may keep copies, take screenshots or forward the file and the passphrase, and the transport (for example AirDrop or Messages) is provided by third parties. We do not control what the recipient does with shared content.
8. User content and intellectual property
The content stored in Vaultron belongs to you (or to its respective owners). We acquire no rights in it, we do not receive it and we do not use it. You do not grant us any licence over your content.
The App, including the code, design, the "Vaultron" and "Thundera Group" marks, logos, texts and images, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. The BIP-39 word list used for the recovery phrase is used under the MIT licence.
If you send suggestions or feedback, we may use them freely to improve the App, without any obligation to compensate you, without prejudice to rights that the law mandatorily grants you.
9. Availability, conformity and updates
We make reasonable efforts to keep the App working and secure and may provide updates, which may be necessary to keep the App conforming and secure. The App requires iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Some features depend on Apple services (iCloud, App Store) that we do not control. We may change the App, with clear information to you; if a change negatively affects your access to or use of the App in a way that is more than minor, you may be entitled to terminate the contract, under Decree-Law No. 84/2021.
As a consumer, you have the conformity rights provided by the law applicable to contracts for the supply of digital content and services (Portuguese Decree-Law No. 84/2021 of 18 October), which these Terms do not exclude.
10. Warranties and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- the App is provided "as is", and we do not guarantee that it will operate without interruption or errors, or that its encryption cannot be broken by every form of attack;
- we are not liable for data loss resulting from loss of the pattern or recovery phrase, loss, replacement or factory reset of the device, deletion of the App, switching off or failure of backup or restore, failures of Apple services, use of the duress or decoy vault, "Erase everything on this device" or any other action by you;
- we are not liable for access to content resulting from jailbreak, malware, an outdated operating system or third parties with access to the device or its passcode, or for what the recipient of a shared vault does with the content received;
- we are not liable for payments, billing, refunds, cancellations and Family Sharing, which are handled by Apple, or for the content you store or share;
- we are not liable for indirect damages, loss of profit or loss of opportunity;
- without prejudice to the above, our total liability to you, for any cause, is limited to the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months before the event giving rise to it.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law, in particular liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, for damage to life, physical integrity or health, or the rights that mandatory law grants to consumers, including the rights arising from a lack of conformity of the App (bringing it into conformity, a price reduction or termination of the contract). The exclusions above do not apply to data loss caused by a lack of conformity of the App or by an event attributable to us for which the law does not allow liability to be excluded. If any provision is held invalid, the others remain in force.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it and cancelling subscriptions in your Apple settings. Encrypted data in iCloud remains in your iCloud account until you delete it.
We may suspend or terminate your right to use the App, with reasonable prior notice where possible, if you materially breach these Terms, in particular section 6, or if the law requires it. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, such as those in sections 8, 10 and 13, remain in force.
We may discontinue the App, informing users in reasonable advance, without prejudice to consumers' rights in respect of purchases already made.
12. Changes to the Terms
We may change these Terms, for example to reflect changes to the App, the plans or the law. The current version is always available at https://vaultron.thundera.eu/terms, with the date of the last update. Material changes will be communicated in the App or on the website before they take effect. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using the App and cancel your subscription; continued use after the changes take effect means you accept them. Changes do not apply retroactively.
13. Governing law, dispute resolution and complaints
These Terms are governed by Portuguese law. Where you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection granted by the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence in the European Union.
In the event of a dispute, we will first seek an amicable solution: contact us at legal@thundera.eu.
As a consumer, you may:
- lodge a complaint in the Electronic Complaints Book (Livro de Reclamações Eletrónico) at www.livroreclamacoes.pt;
- use a consumer alternative dispute resolution entity. The list of consumer dispute resolution entities is available on the Consumer Portal at www.consumidor.gov.pt;
- bring the matter before the competent courts under the law.
14. General provisions
These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Apple Standard EULA are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App. Failure or delay in exercising a right is not a waiver of that right. We are not liable for failures or delays caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, such as failures of Apple services or communications networks. Communications about these Terms may be made by email to the contact address given, or through the App and the website. If any provision is held void or ineffective, the others remain in force. We may assign our contractual position to a third party that takes over the operation of Vaultron, informing users, without prejudice to consumers' rights.
