FAQ
Do I need an account?
No. Vaultron has no sign-up and no login.
Does Vaultron have a server?
No. Your vaults stay on your device. Encrypted backups and sync use your own private iCloud.
Can Thundera see my photos or files?
No. Vaultron has no server that receives them, and Thundera never receives your keys, patterns or recovery phrase.
What happens if I lose my iPhone?
If you had backup on and you have your 24-word recovery phrase, you can restore your vaults on another device. If you skipped the recovery phrase, nothing was backed up, and the vaults on the lost device cannot be restored.
I forgot my pattern. What can I do?
Vaultron cannot show your pattern. On the lock screen, tap Trouble getting in?: restore your vaults from your encrypted iCloud backup with your recovery phrase, or erase everything on this device and start again. See Trouble getting in?.
I reinstalled Vaultron. Where are my vaults?
Deleting the app removes its files from the device. Vaultron shows “Starting fresh” and offers Restore from backup; your recovery phrase restores what was backed up. See Backup and recovery.
Someone may have seen my recovery phrase. Can I change it?
Yes. Open a vault and go to Settings → Backup & sync → Change recovery phrase. See Backup and recovery.
Does Vaultron show ads or track me?
No. There are no ads, analytics or trackers. Error reports are on by default but stay on your device, hold only technical details, and are sent only if you send them yourself. See Error reports.
Can Vaultron hide my vault from screenshots?
Not the screenshot itself: iOS does not let apps prevent one. With Protect against screenshots and screen recording (on by default), your library, photos, videos, documents and notes come out black in screenshots and screen recordings, Vaultron shows a cover while the screen is recorded, mirrored or shown over AirPlay, and it is always covered in the app switcher. Screens without vault content, like Settings, are not hidden. See Security.
What if someone grabs my phone while a vault is open?
With Shake to lock (Settings → Security, on by default and free), the sudden jerk locks the vault at once, and so do two or three quick shakes. It locks the vault, not your iPhone. You can choose Low, Medium or High sensitivity. See Shake to lock.
Is there a light mode?
Yes. Settings → Appearance → Theme: System (the default), Dark or Light. In light mode, buttons, links and accent text are black for readability; in dark mode they are cyan.
Can Vaultron delete the originals after I import them?
Yes, if you turn on Delete originals after import in Settings → Import (off by default). It works for imports from Photos, Files and drag and drop. Each vault copy is checked before its original is deleted, and Vaultron asks first. Photos keeps deleted items in Recently Deleted for 30 days; deleted files are gone for good unless their storage keeps a copy. Some items always stay, for example burst photos and files in locations that don’t allow deleting; the report after the import says which and why. See Deleting the originals.
Does a duress vault delete my backups?
No. Drawing the duress pattern removes the other vaults from the device, but their iCloud backups are kept. Your recovery phrase can restore them later. See Vaults and duress.
Which devices does Vaultron run on?
iPhone and iPad.
How do I buy Pro?
Purchases are handled by Apple. See Plans and prices.
Has Vaultron been independently audited?
No. See Security for the design and its limits.
Where do I get help?
See Vaultron support.
